Our Family Photo Shoot in Soča River

Our Family Photo Shoot in Soča River

In Soča River we had our photos taken by Samo Rovan. He had great technique and was very funny (and the windows on his car did not have a child-lock so I was able to open my own window and feel the breeze in my

Horseback Riding in Soča River

Horseback Riding in Soča River

I went horseback riding in Soča River and it was awesome! I learned how to turn, stop, go, and balance. (Thank you to the instructor who taught me this, I don’t remember your name, but you were great.) My horse’s name was Aura and she

Soča River Rafting

Soča River Rafting

I went rafting in Soča River two times.

We had a water fight as we cruised down the river. I smacked my paddle against the water like a beaver’s tail and doused the other boat with water!

The river was fast, bumpy, and had huge rocks which created enormous rapids.

The river was freezing cold and crystal clear.

The first time we went, we pulled up to a rock, flipped the boat over, pulled it up onto the rock, and created a slide. At first I was nervous, but then I liked it.

Rafting in Soča River is awesome! Thank you Casi, Petra, Jofo, and Laci for adding tons of excitement to our trip. If you want to see and learn more about the company we used, click here: Soca Rider.

Vršič Pass

Vršič Pass

To get from Lake Bled to Soča River you can take a road with 50 hairpin turns built in World War I. At the 8th turn there is a small Russian Chapel just to the left of the road. The chapel was built by Russian

Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains.

As I got in the lake, fish swam by my feet and ducks flew over my head. We swam out to the middle of the lake.

I rode a ski gondola up to the top of a mountain. When we got out of the gondola, much to our surprise we saw alpine cows and goats.

Speaking of cows, Lake Bohinj is famous for cheese, but we forgot to get any. If you forget to get any, don’t have a cow about it because I’ve done it too.

Vintgar Gorge

Vintgar Gorge

The funniest thing that happened at Vintgar Gorge was that we saw three White-throated Dippers (aka European Dippers) jumping off rocks, taking a dip, and popping up further downstream. Next we saw trout lazily floating in an emerald green pool. After we saw the trout

Lake Bled Castle

Lake Bled Castle

Lake Bled Castle sits on the top of a hill overlooking Lake Bled. We got to see how people used to make books with a letterpress. I even got to try making something with it. Here is a picture of what I made with the

Lake Bled Church

Lake Bled Church

There is a church on the island in the middle of Lake Bled.

I got to ring a bell in the chapel.

I got to go into the clock tower and see the gigantic pendulum clock. The clock had an enormous bell. We had an awesome walnut cake called potica.

My dad rowed us out to the church, but I rowed us back in, and I was much better at rowing than him.

Lake Bled Church is beautiful.

The Swans of Lake Bled

The Swans of Lake Bled

I saw four swans on Lake Bled. One of the swans was an adult and the others were cygnets (baby swans). The swans were called mute swans, but they are far from mute. These swans paddle with one foot and rest the other on their
