A Whole Lot’O Gelato
I ate at a ton of gelato cafes during my trip, but here are my top five. Europe’s gelato is the best I’ve ever had! Even though Italy is famous for it, Slovenia’s gelato is awesome too. Because I am about to move on to …

In Soča River we had our photos taken by Samo Rovan. He had great technique and was very funny (and the windows on his car did not have a child-lock so I was able to open my own window and feel the breeze in my …
I went horseback riding in Soča River and it was awesome!
I learned how to turn, stop, go, and balance.
(Thank you to the instructor who taught me this, I don’t remember your name, but you were great.)
My horse’s name was Aura and she was a Lipizzaner. I got her out of the stable and then I rode her in the arena.
At first, I couldn’t get my balance, but then I did it. Horseback riding at Pristava Lepena is a memorable experience. Here is a link if you want to check out their website: Pristava Lepena
I went rafting in Soča River two times. We had a water fight as we cruised down the river. I smacked my paddle against the water like a beaver’s tail and doused the other boat with water! The river was fast, bumpy, and had huge …
Good news, I got published in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s magazine! I got published with a picture of a red-winged blackbird and a poem (I created them last school year). To see my poem and picture click here: BirdSleuth 2017 and then click on the green “Click …
To get from Lake Bled to Soča River you can take a road with 50 hairpin turns built in World War I.
At the 8th turn there is a small Russian Chapel just to the left of the road. The chapel was built by Russian prisoners who built the road.
We saw a sign for a lodge and when we turned the corner we had to wait for a gigantic flock of sheep to cross the road.
We hit the 49th turn as we descended out of the mountains, wondering if the 50th turn really existed. After stopping at coffee shop we found the 50th turn further down the road.
Some of these pictures may have been taken by my mom from the passenger seat in the car.
Lake Bohinj is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. As I got in the lake, fish swam by my feet and ducks flew over my head. We swam out to the middle of the lake. I rode a ski gondola up to the top of …
The funniest thing that happened at Vintgar Gorge was that we saw three White-throated Dippers (aka European Dippers) jumping off rocks, taking a dip, and popping up further downstream. Next we saw trout lazily floating in an emerald green pool. After we saw the trout …
Lake Bled Castle sits on the top of a hill overlooking Lake Bled.
We got to see how people used to make books with a letterpress. I even got to try making something with it. Here is a picture of what I made with the letterpress.
After I used the letterpress we rushed up the stairs to eat Father’s Day dinner.
I had angler’s tail and it was tasty! It tastes much better than it looks because it looks super ugly, but it’s quite tasty (if you want to see how ugly an anglerfish is, click here: https://scripps.ucsd.edu/sites/scripps.ucsd.edu/files/basic-page-collections/field_landing_page_image/2013/anglerfish.jpg). I also ate Lake Bled Cream Cake. A custard cake found only in Lake Bled.
Here are my pictures from the inside of Lake Bled Castle showing ancient artifacts from this castle.
Lake Bled Castle is beautiful.
There is a church on the island in the middle of Lake Bled. I got to ring a bell in the chapel. I got to go into the clock tower and see the gigantic pendulum clock. The clock had an enormous bell. We had an awesome walnut …
