Predjama Castle

Predjama Castle

Predjama Castle sits in the mouth of a cave. There is a hiding spot with access to a cave system behind the castle. The stairs up to the balcony are gigantic and hard to climb. Swifts cruised in and out of the eaves. Predjama Castle

The Dragons of Postojna Cave

Can you guess what the most well known thing in Postojna Cave is? It’s an olm! If you want to see another olm picture click here: https://www.postojnska-jama.eu/assets/Obiscite-nas/Proteusova-jama/Postojna-Cave-Vivarium-Proteus-P-anguinus-1.jpg. Ljubljana – Part 3

Ljubljana – Part 3

Ljubljana has an incredible castle and many amazing churches. We could see the castle from our hotel room.

We got up to the castle by taking our second funicular. The ride was beautiful and the view of the castle was amazing. It was the first castle that I had ever seen. The clock tower was beautiful and we got to go up to the top of it to see the view.

I saw four types of birds at the castle including pigeons, crows, sparrows, and kos (kos are European blackbirds with stunning yellow bills). The pigeons were everywhere.

The crow was in the courtyard looking for food.

The sparrow was on the steps right next to me trying to eat my cheddar rockets.

The kos was outside on the wall, although this picture was taken as the kos disappeared into the shrubs.

There is a bird marsh not too far outside Ljubljana. When we arrived, there was a pheasant in the road! I don’t have any photos of it because it was running away from the car! It had a shiny green head and red cheek patches

Skocjan Caves – Part 2

If you see a fuzzy stalactite, it’s a bat (especially if it squeaks)! Nine types of bats appear in the cave. One is the long winged.

There are no photos allowed in the cave because algae will grow. There is a funicular that goes up to the information center. This cave is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Click here to learn more http://www.park-skocjanske-jame.si/en

Skocjan Cave Part 1

Skocjan Cave in Slovenia is very beautiful. Stalactites and Stalagmites create amazing formations. Stalactites hang from the top and stalagmites come up from the bottom. They grow one millimeter per year. That’s slow! Different colors indicate different minerals. For example, limestone is white.
